Law in Contemporary Society

-- FarayiMafoti - 14 Jan 2010

What I initially hoped for out of law school was a chance to hone my creative and logical sensibilities. I was a philosophy major in college, so lawyering seemed like the next logical step career-wise. Moreover, since my parents are from South Africa and Zimbabwe, I thought I could perhaps use my law degree in some sensible way to effect a change. One of my close friends, a UVA law student, was able to work for the ICC when it stood as the Rwandan war crimes tribunal and I figured I could do something similar.
